Inspired by Noguchi’s Akari lamps, the phin đèn accompanies daily routine to induce a comforting and gentle experience. The lantern mimics the appearance of the Vietnamese phin, but functions as an ambient light. The cylindrical form made of Unryu washi paper and concentric bamboo rings allows light to diffuse from the bulb, creating a soft, warm glow to its surroundings. Initially designed to accompany the task of making coffee early morning, the lantern’s portability allows it to be versatile around the home. The luminere pays homage to Vietnamese tradition, while effortlessly fitting domestic life.
